Rack and Bag Oyster Culture

Rack and bag oyster culture is similar to floating systems as oysters are housed in bags in order to grow. Leases are normally in the intertidal zone with the bags lifted off of the sea floor and supported by racks manufactured from rebar. The rebar is securely set in the sediment, forcing the oysters to move with the motion of the waves. At low tide, the bags are exposed to the open air to prevent fouling. They are also flipped to prevent the oysters from growing into the bags and each other. The distribution of the oysters is also evaluated.
